• Grand Caire and its surroundings (12 Miles) - Farmers and wines growers used to live within this large square. The streets round the Palace of Justice are lined with attractive houses. Opposite the Palace of Justice in the Rue de Paris, Visitandines Church.
• St-Germain Abbey (13 Miles) - St-Germain attracts pilgrims to the tomb of the former bishop of Auxerre and medieval scholars to the attached ecclesiastic college. The cool underground chapel holds the oldest frescoes in France, some well-preserved.
• Leblanc-Duvernoy Museum (15 Miles) - Situated between rue Gaillard and rue de l'Egalité, contains painting, pottery, and elegant 18th-century Beauvais tapestries.
• Cathedral St-Etienne (19 Miles) - Completed in the 16th century, the front facade is remarkable. The stained glass, some of it original, is famous. In the crypt, which is all that remains of the Romanesque church that stood on this site, you can see 11th-century frescoes.
