•  Château d'If (18 Miles) - Guards the city from its golden rock perch outside the harbour. Nearby the Ile Frioul quarantined suspected plague infectees, it's now a public monument. Fort St-Jean's original tower guarded a giant chain that closed off the harbor in times of trouble.
•  Palais Longchamp (19 Miles) - Endowed with towering columns and flowing water, the monument itself is only the center of the complex, which includes The Musée des Beaux-Arts,The Musée de l'Histoire Naturelle, a park, and an observatory.
