• Amphithéâtre Romain (10 Miles) - An impressive piece of architecture, and one of the best preserved arenas from it's time. It stands two stories high, and each floor features sixty arches built of large stones. • Musée des Beaux-Arts (11 Miles) - Musée des Beaux-Arts is the largest museum in the city. It holds a number of French sculptures and paintings, dating from the 17th to 20th century. Works from the 15th to 18th century by Flemish, Dutch and Italian artists are also contained here. • Maison Carrée (14 Miles) - One of the most beautiful and best-preserved Roman temples of Europe. Biult during the reign of Caesar Augustus. Set on a raised platform with tall Corinthian columns, it inspired Thomas Jefferson as well as the builders of La Madeleine in Paris. • Pont du Gard (27 Miles) - Consisting of three tiers of arches arranged into gracefully symmetrical patterns, its huge stones are held together without mortar. It dates from about 19 b.c. and is a vivid reminder of the technical know-how of the ancient Romans.
